“The Access to Medicine Index 2010 is one of the important instruments in the improvement of access to medicine for the unprivileged people in developing countries.” Dr. Hans V. Hogerzeil, director of the Department of Essential Medicines and Pharmaceutical Policies.
The ATM Foundation and the RiskMetrics Group (research and analysis provider for the Index) recently traveled to Geneva, where they were invited to present the Methods and Results of the Access to Medicine Index 2010 to WHO staff members and delegates of the pharmaceutical industry. The meeting, chaired by Dr. Hans Hogerzeil and Dr. Richard Laing, drew lively discussion and an exchange of ideas regarding the methodology and the findings of the Index. Those present emphasized the vital role of the report in the process of improving access to medicine for the poor; collectively the group stressed the importance of bringing the report to the attention of broader governmental and non-governmental audiences.
