
Haarlem, The Netherlands — The Access to Medicine Foundation has been invited to present the Access to Medicine Index at various international conferences targeting pharmaceutical industries, enabling it to further promote the Index and bring wider attention to best practices in improving access to medicine worldwide.
On October 9, 2008, Wim Leereveld, the Access to Medicine Foundation's Chair, will take part in the International conference on Corporate Responsibility and Governance at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. This conference seeks to identify professional trends in corporate social responsibility and corporate governance and to suggest options for responsible action in an increasingly globalized world.
A special Breakout Session at the conference will focus on "CSR in the pharma industry – Vision and specific trends Focus on Access to Medicine: Responsibility or opportunity?" Panel members also include Prof. Dr. Klaus M. Leisinger (Novartis Foundation for Sustainable Development, Switzerland), Lise Kingo (Novo Nordisk, Denmark), Klaus Brill (Bayer Schering Pharma, Germany), and Lukas Pfister (Merck & Co, Germany).
On November 13 and 14, 2008, the Access to Medicine Foundation has been asked to address a workshop on 'Socially Responsible Investing and Transparency' at the TBLI Conference Europe 2008 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The conference is a leading annual networking and learning event on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and socially responsible investing. It is organized by the TBLI GROUP, which specializes in 'triple bottom line investing' (TBLI) and ESG issues. Last year's TBLI conference was held in Paris and attracted 500 participants.
On February 12, 2009, the Access to Medicine Foundation is invited to speak at the Economist 's 15th annual Pharma Summit at the Renaissance Chancery Court in London, UK. The summit brings together senior figures to debate key issues affecting the pharmaceutical industry. Access to medicine will be one of the topics on the agenda, with the aim to develop effective business models for the bottom of the pyramid. Other speakers at the summit besides Wim Leereveld will include Chris Brinsmead (AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, UK), Angus Russell (Shire Pharmaceuticals, UK), Paul Herrling (Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases, UK), and Richard Barker (Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, UK).
