Access to Medicine Founder Attends Pacific Health Summit

Wim Leereveld, Chair and Founder of the Access to Medicine Foundation, and Femke Markus, the Foundation's Managing Director, recently attended the Pacific Health Summit,  June 22-24 in London, UK.

The Summit coincided with the launch of the Access to Medicine Index 2010, a ranking of the world’s top pharmaceutical companies on their efforts in regards to access to medicine.

In his speech, he pointed out the growing influence of the Index and the efforts pharma companies are making in regards to this important issue. Both Leereveld and Markus went on attend the two-day Summit that brings together the top decision-makers in science, policy, industry, medicine, and public health convene to discuss global health issues through the effective utilization of scientific advances combined with industrial innovation and appropriate policies.

Held every June, the theme of this year’s Summit was maternal and newborn health. In addition to the June meeting, the Summit provides an ongoing forum for world leaders to improve health by working together to grapple with problems and solutions, share best practices, and forge effective collaborations.
